Colouring Mandalas to reduce Mental Pressure in m-Health

Abstract


Mental health is one of the crucial health issues among Hong Kong youth population causing several youth suicides. Adolescents commonly suffer from anxiety and depressive mood by virtue of high academic pressure, interpersonal relationships and insufficient sleep. Mood change is the early sign of the mental health problems especially anxiety and depression. Colouring mandalas is one of the strategies for promoting the positive mood. Advance in information and communication technology, mobile health (m-health) rapidly grows worldwide since the penetration of smartphone rises swiftly especially among the adolescents. Majority of them use the smartphone not only for communication but also for entertainment. Using mobile health can be a powerful intervention for them to promote positive mood so mood change and colouring mandalas mobile apps offers a platform for monitoring daily mood changes and uploading colouring mandalas. It also provides knowledge about maintenance of positive mood and explores the effects of the colouring mandalas on the mood changes and promoting positive mood. The system pioneers the development of smart mental health.
